WILL OF THE ANCIENTS BIOGRAPHY

Will of the Ancients (WOTA) was founded in 2002 by Tristram (Tristan), Albanack, Macros and Melekhai. Their goal was to create music in the vein of epic black metal.
Arrakis (Steve) was inducted from Tristans previous band, SINISTRY to fill the bass guitar void. After some progress had been made, Macros left the band in order to concentrate on his education, and was replaced by Maelgad (Colin). A consistent drummer was the main hindrance to the momentum of the band, until Heborym was conscripted.

2004 spawned COLD GRIM TIMES WOTAs first epic. This first effort was met with praise, scold and controversy. Despite some of the negative feedback, which was seemingly based on rumor and speculation, WOTA pushed forward. Two live dates in Toronto were set in support of COLD GRIM TIMES, unfortunately, a few weeks before these dates; Albanack left the band due to personal issues, and dissatisfaction with the bands current direction. He also decided not to have his lyrics associated with WOTA. Rex Lupis (Jordy) was quickly inducted, from Tristans side project, OCKHAMS RAZOR, to fill the gap left by Albanack. Both Toronto dates were very successful, despite the difficult events that had so recently transpired.
After line up issues seemed to be settling down, Tristan, being the senior member and main song writer, took the role of commander. Melekhai, Heborym, and Maelgad (Colin) not happy with Tristans charge, all deserted WOTA at the same time. Melekhai also saw fit to not associated his written music with WOTA, shortening COLD GRIM TIMES to 5 songs. Griminal (Tom), who was present at the time of Melekhais parting phone call, was instantly asked to join the band as the second guitarist. Unclouded by musical differences, WOTA formulated a plan for the future, which of course started with the search for a drummer. Tristan contacted David Gold (WOODS OF YPRES) to see if he was interested, and he accepted the offer. Shortly after, Conan was found to fill in for Keys.

With new blood coursing through the band, new cities were visited and new crowds were entertained, but this incarnation was not long lived. As quickly as momentum had picked up, it grinded to a screeching stop. David Gold left the band citing conflicting opinions and schedules, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Tristan was put into contact with a well known Ontario metal drummer, that went by the name of Sayduke (Jason). He had just recently ended his 13 year stay in BLOOD OF CHRIST, and was looking to pick up where he left off behind the kit. Although he had originally decided to play temporarily, his interest in the music swayed him to stick around for the ride.

With his addition to the band, an eruption took place. The intensity Jason brought to the band opened a new world of opportunities, both professionally and musically. Show after show was successful and the old rumors and speculation that had surrounded WOTA became a thing of the past. Conan was eventually ejected from the band due to musical differences and Maelgad (Colin) rejoined, expressing new interest and offering new skills.

2006 would give birth to WOTAs Self Titled full length album, which was released under Northern Storm Records. The album is currently receiving great reviews world wide and is making believers out of many of the naysayers from the past. It landed WOTA a spot on Heathen Crusade II, one of the most respected Metal Fests in North America.

WOTA is currently writing new material for a new full length album and is also playing shows wherever they can. WOTA will continue to write epic, ass kicking, heavy music until the metal gods strike them down.
