Raate was formed by two individuals in the greater Helsinki area in Finland in the Spring of 2004. Later the same year, "Demo I" was relesed. After an enthusiastic response by the BM underground - including several highly favourable unsolicited reviews - the same recording was released by W.T.C. in 2006 as the 12" album "Halki kuolleen maan".

2007 brings the first release of new material by the band since 2004, including a full-length album, "Sielu, linna" and several contributions to worthy compilations with original music.
