1. Autumn
Autumn
As the rain falls in autumn
The summer warmth will cease
And the red and golden leaves so frail
They are whirling in the breeze
Naked branches on the naked trees
They move silently in the wind
No whispers telling untold truths
No unsung songs they sing
You like these leaves shall fall
You like these leaves shall fade
You shall hibernate in frozen mire
and in summer char under the eye of fire
Life is a paradox
Life is but an instant
An instant is eternity
and eternity is but an instant
You have not yet seen enough things pine
To regard the deficits of time.
2. A Dream
A Dream
In a dreamy world called now
Where time is going to and fro
A cairn rises from a foundation long gone
Like a dream without a goal
Following a single tune
Dying to become, being to be gone
And moss will grow
On the naked stones
In glory
Upon God's creation
In dark daylight
Cairns fall
To a couple of bones
To rise in an iteration
And on a cairn one sat
With worn out shoes
Lifting gravel
in search of clues.
3. The Scarecrow
The Scarecrow
Surrounded by fence, at the fields on a plank,
the scarecrow is nailed up, with straw hair so lank
His clothes may look fancy, yet he’s stuffed up with hay,
his hat old and patched, and his face made of clay
And even though, he scares the ravens away
Eventually, when we peasants are old and the scarecrow neglected,
and rain has poured down his face, leaving a contorted smile that leads us astray...
We peasants want the sky, to turn blue from winters gray,
but that is as believable, as a scarecrow made of hay
Maybe it is true, that after winter there's a spring,
where we peasants are like one, and that peasant is a king
Or maybe flowers will grow, over tombs that time has clasped,
over our naked cold hands, and the golden grains we grasped
4. Mind of Winter
Mind of Winter
Beholding snowfall
A white layer lies on hills and valleys
Oh, the mountains
How they reach beyond clouds
How they are above mankind
in the grip of a cold, grim beautiful winter
As the mind is winter
and the beholder cold
Nothing will break thoughts of ice
And spring will of course never come
If ice does not melt.
5. Epiludium
