1. Abschied

Sacht, mein Freund, schließ Deine Lippen
atme ruhig und bleibe still,
weil das Blut aus Deinen Wunden
sonst zu reichlich fließen will;
sei getrost, dem braven Rosse,
das Dich trug, gelang die Flucht
und der Feind wird Dich nicht finden
gleich, wie lange er auch sucht.

Deine Hand sucht nach dem Schwerte,
es liegt direkt neben Dir.
Halt es fest, Du bist sein Meister
und ein Meister warst Du mir.
Vieles hast Du mich gelehret
obgleich wir noch jung an Jahr'n,
stets warst Du an meiner Seite
viel konnt ich durch Dich erfahr'n.

Hör nicht auf des Kampfes Toben,
das um ums herum noch hallt.
Achte nicht auf meine Tränen
Deine Hand wird furchtbar kalt.
Deine Augen sprechen zu mir
jedes Wort kann ich verstehn,
ja, ich weiß, Du willst nun ruhen,
es wird Zeit für Dich, zu gehn...

Brüder waren wir im Geiste;
werden wir für immer sein.
Auf Dich warten nun die Götter:
Tritt voll Stolz bei ihnen ein!

2. If Only I Could Understand...

If I could only understand
the speech of bird and tree!
How many secrets they would tell
and share them all with me!
And ev'ry bush and ev'ry rock
I'd see with different eyes;
I'd understand the river's whisp'ring
and the raven's cries
...and the raven's cries.

Deep in the forest I'd build a house
of wood, of straw and stone
and the good folk would be with me
I'd never be alone.
I'd listen to the melodies
of all their songs of old
and winds and leaves would tell me
ev'ry legend ever told
...ev'ry legend ever told.

Peace, little dreamer, take a rest,
too much it is you want!
'Cause bush and beast speak in a tongue
you no more understand.
Once man has spoken with the woods
a long, long time ago,
but all this wisdom now is gone
and buried in the snow.

But if you want to learn again
and make a whole new start,
then listen to the whisp'ring wind
and listen with your heart...

...and listen with your heart...

3. Sørg Aldri

Sørg aldri du min pike
Slå sorgen av ditt sind
Thi du skal gleden finde
den gang du bliver min
Som rosen er du rød
For dig så vil jeg dø
Mitt unge liv jeg lovade
For dig min kjæreste

Du behøver ei å tenke
Jeg bliver deg utro
Nei, før skal liver springe
I tusen strykker gå
Min mun skal stille stå
Mitt øye lukkes til
Mitt hjarta det skal brista
Før jeg deg skiva vil

in jedem Heuhalm schmeckt, nie wiederkehrt.

Es kann nicht mehr wie andere Pferde lachen;

waldfrisches Holz dort unten landet,

5. Mighty Friends

Have you seen the riders on their horses,
as they were riding through the night?
Their bright eyes were shining so mighty,
though they were still tired from the fight.
Where do they come from?
Where do they go?
They are different from you,
you'll never know...
Their hearts are of fire,
their souls are so true,
they are men of honour,
not false ones like you!

Did you hear the distant thunder raging
and the ravens croaking in the fields?
Did you see the proud eyes of those swordsmen?
Did you see the signs on their big shields?
They came from somewhere
out from the dark,
like a bright fire
out from a small spark...
If you haven't seen them
or if you think they're bad,
if you think they're dangerous
then you must be mad!

Then rot in your own world!
Then you'll never see
the proud swordsman riding,
riding with me!
Pray to your weak god,
hate and ignorance;
Yes, you will be lonely,
but I will die in the arms
of my friends...

6. Die Drei

Drei Reiter nach verlor'ner Schlacht
wie reiten sie so sacht, so sacht,
aus tiefen Wunden quillt das Blut,
es spürt das Ross die warme Flut.
Vom Sattel läuft das Blut, vom Zaum,
und spült hinunter Staub und Schaum;

drum tut mein früher Tod mir leid."
"Hab Hof und Heim und dichten Wald
und sterben muss ich hier so bald."
"Hab nur den Blick in dieser Welt,
sonst nichts, doch schwer mir's sterben fällt..."

Und lauernd auf dem Todesritt
ziehn durch die Luft drei Geier mit,
die teilen kreischend unter sich:
"Den speisest Du, den Du, den ich!"...

(chorus:)
He, ho, ein Feuerlein brennt,
kalt ist die Nacht für die Söldner...

Silberne Löffel und Ketten im Sack
legst Du besser beim Schlafen Dir unters Genack.

(chorus)

He, ho, das Feuer ist aus,
bald schon, da kommen die Söldner...

8. The Forest of Souls

Between coloured trees she did wander alone
and felt the cold rain from above.
Again it was autumn, again she was sad
and dreamed about shelter and love.
She heard the crows croaking, listened to their cries,
the lovely sweet melancholy.
She smiled at the cold breeze that played in her hair
and so she passed by silently
...silently...

As if she had followed a voice in her soul,
she entered the heart of the wood.
She rose her face slowly and looked at the might,
that surrounded the clearing where she stood.
She opened her mouth, but no word would come out;
her words were the tears in her eyes.
Beholding such beauty, how worthless she felt,
oh, even too worthless to cry
...oh, to cry...

And just like a vision, a small ray of light
in front of her face did appear.
Then she heard the footsteps, and through tear-filled eyes
she saw a young man coming near.
The crows croaked above him, the sweet drops of rain
like jewels lay in his dark hair
that blew in the wind, that stroke his white cheek
and his noble face pale and fair
...pale and fair...

"I greet thee, fair maiden.", he said, and she knew
that she had heard his voice before.
The road to the clearing, the heart of the wood,
his warm voice has shown her the door.
It had been the calling deep inside her soul
and her soulmate was now by her side.
"My true love", he said, "let this wood be thy home."
...and there she did stay as his bride...
...as his bride...

9. Der Fels im Moor

Dort, wo die Nebel nie verweh'n,
wo nie das Licht sich zeigt,
dort steht seit ewig langer Zeit
ein Fels im Moor und schweigt.
Die Unken singen dort ihr Lied
in jeder neuen Nacht,
als wüssten sie, was einst hier war
und was dies Unheil bracht.

10. As the Rain Keeps Falling

As the rain keeps falling,
I listen to the voices of the wind
As I lay down my sword
and I saddle my horse;
As the rain keeps falling,
I'm riding through the mountains, through the woods
and I stop and I stare
at the beauty around.
When I see the eagle fly above my head
and the clouds in the sky,
then I think about the times that once have been
as I hear the owl's cry...

As the rain keeps falling
my eyes are filled with tears, so cruel, so cold
Tears that fall for a time
that's forgotten and gone;
As the rain keeps falling,
the tears turn red as blood and burn my sight
Well, but nobody cares
and so they fall to the ground.
When I see the eagle fly above my head...

As the rain keeps falling,
the eagle's call is shrilling from the distance
through the forests and hills,
through the caves and the lakes;
As the rain keeps falling,
it tells the lost legends of a lost time
of which nothing is left,
only sadness and tears.
Where are all the legends, where are all the songs
of the woods and the hills?
Where are all the wonders that we used to see?
Washed away in the rain...
