ISIS BIOGRAPHY
There are at least 3 artists with this name.
1. Formed in Boston in 1997, Isis is a band that combines ambience, atmosphere, tone and aggressiveness to form a unique style of metal music.
Their music consists of lengthy songs that focus heavily on repetition. Because of this and the fact that they tend to bury the vocals, the band receives little to no mainstream radio play.
ISIS have been compared to the genre of post-rock, which leans away from the traditional elements of choruses, verses, repetitive vocals, or fast/repetitive riffs. However, ISIS have more hardcore/sludge origins (especially in their pre-Celestial era) and hardcore-oriented vocals. Their music involves elements of hardcore, drone, sludge, ambient and post-rock, yet none can fully define their sound. Frontman Aaron Turner, when posed the challenge of defining ISIS, stated they were best described as "avant-garde, drone-oriented rock, but that doesn't completely cover the bases."
Due to this difficulty, some fans and critics tend to label Isis as post-metal. This genre is associated with similar-sounding contemporaries such as Pelican, Cult of Luna and Rosetta.
2. Isis is a female rapper that released an album in the early nineties, called "Rebel Soul". She was down with the Blackwatch Movement. Nowadays she's better known under the name "Lin Que", and she's about to release a new CD. She's been gone for a long time, but now she's back...!!
3. Isis is a 21 year old, Nigerian-born, Canadian-raised newcomer on the hip hop scene. In less than a year, Isis has shared stages with underground hip-hop legends Bahamadia, Vast Aire of Def Jux, M1 of Dead Prez, conscious hip-hop band Tumi, the Volume of District Six Music, and T.I. She has performed at the legendary Show Time at the Apollo and Montreal's International Jazz Festival.
Isis launched her "MySpace MyCouch" Tour, a clever set of gigs established solely through her contacts on MySpace. So far she has performed in Montreal, Philadelphia and Seattle, and will eventually find her way to California.
Recently she self-released her debut, The Last Minute EP. She also appears on the compilation album Underground Hip-Hop Volume Four.
