There are at least 7 bands that go by the name Benighted: 3 are in Sweden, 2 in the United States, 1 Croatian, and 1 from France. But very little information is known about the other bands, or they have broken up. The only two known active bands are the French Benighted, and one of the Swedish Benighted bands, from Lerum.

French Benighted:

Formed in 1998 in Balbigny, France, Benighted has slowly evolved from a standard old-school death metal group, to a newer sound, referred to by many as "post-death", combining groovy death-thrash riffs with black metal like sections, and various different styles of harsh vocals throughout their albums.

Benighted has 4 albums under their belt: 2000's Benighted, 2002's Psychose, 2003's Insane Cephalic Production, and 2006's Identisick.They have just released their newest effort on 15th october titled "Icon".Their official website is www.staybrutal.com

Swedish Benighted (Lerum, Sweden):


Benighted was formed around 2001 by Aho, as he had just left Immemoreal and wanted to start something of his own, and be able to have full control of the productivity. Salle was the obvious choice of a drummer, since they had been playing together before in several death and black metal bands, and
had also been friends since years back.

So far Benighted has released two demos entitled "Heljarför" and “Avgrundshjärta”, but the plague will not stop with these demos. Rest assure that Benighted will be released upon the world again, driven by a deep hate and scorn against mankind...
